Your Questions, Answered
When should I schedule a lactation consultation or ask for breastfeeding support?
You can book a session during pregnancy (prenatal support) or anytime after birth including any feeding challenges within your baby’s first year. Early support can prevent common feeding issues. Our general rule is that if you’re experiencing pain, then there is something that should change.
Are your lactation consultants certified IBCLCs?
Yes, Brianna and Melody are both IBCLCs, as well as having a diverse clinical background. Being IBCLCs means they have met rigorous standards in lactation care, ensuring expert support for you and your baby. Additionally, Brianna is an SLP and has Beckman Oral Motor training. Melody is a pediatric physical therapy assistant, demonstrating her comprehensive knowledge of the body as a whole system. To understand more about how these backgrounds can impact lactation and feeding care, please see our “about” page.

Can I see you before my baby is born?
Yes, we offer a prenatal breastfeeding class and one-on-one consultations to help you feel confident before baby arrives. Having a relationship with your lactation care provider can make all the difference in the early postpartum days and beyond.
Do you help with tongue tie, lip tie, or oral restrictions?
Yes, as an IBCLCs, the First Feedings providers will carefully assess and document any signs of tongue tie, lip tie, or other oral restrictions that may affect feeding. While we do not provide medical diagnoses, we work closely with trusted medical professionals and specialists, referring you when appropriate to ensure you and your baby receive the best possible care. Additionally, with Melody’s pediatric physical therapy background and Brianna’s speech-language pathology expertise, we provide complementary therapies like stretches and oral motor support to help your baby thrive.
How long are appointments?
Initial consultations typically last 60–90 minutes, with follow-ups running 45–60 minutes. Our appointment timing is catered to the needs of each individual’s needs.
